BASIL
Basil essential oil is steam distilled from the leaves and flowering tops of the basil plant. Traditionally this herb has been used throughout the centuries in prayer and for healing. In holy temples, the leaves of the plant, soaked in holy water or coconut water, are chewed as part of the prayer ceremonies.

This greenish-yellow, crisp-smelling essential oil is often used in aromatherapy to awaken the mind, steady the nerves and bring about clarity of thought. Basil oil is said to be therapeutic for the respiratory tract and nervous or stress-related headaches whilst promoting mental strength and a clear mind. This oil can be used in massage for abdominal cramps, and to help relax the body suffering from stress, lethargy or lack of focus.

LEMON
Lemon oil has a sharp, fresh smell and is extracted from the fresh lemon fruit peel by cold expression. The lemon plant was brought to Europe in the Middle Ages, and was given to sailors to prevent scurvy, eye problems, and other vitamin deficiencies.

This oil is refreshing to the mind, and sharpens concentration, so it is often preferred in room fresheners. The vapours of lemon oil can help relieve tension, stress headache, and cold symptoms. Inhaling the aroma is helpful for stress, irritability, lethargy, and fatigue. Lemon oil has a cleansing effect of the body and has been used to relieve a variety of skin conditions. Its antiseptic properties reduce excessive oil and help cleanse and freshen the skin.

PEPPERMINT
Peppermint oil is steam distilled from the fresh leaves of Mentha piperita. Discoveries prove that peppermint has been used since ancient times in Egypt, Greece and Rome, to crown the Greeks and Romans, and has been used medicinally in England for centuries.

The minty-fresh fragrance of Peppermint essential oil is universally recognised and appreciated. Inhaling a few drops on a tissue is reviving, and is an aid to concentration. This is also useful for clearing sinuses, travel sickness and jet lag. Peppermint offers cooling and relaxing properties, with a familiar, sweet, cool aroma that seems to penetrate airways, helping to clear and soothe. In aromatherapy it is used to help focus, and increase concentration, relaxing and calming a busy, stressed mind. It is a useful muscle relaxant that can be used to relieve stiff and aching muscles and joints, and is often used in sport therapy.
